Post-Abortion Care Clinical Training
Nearly 80,000 women die each year from unsafe abortion. Most are in the developing world.
All women and girls, including refugees and internally displaced persons, have the right to seek post-abortion care (PAC). Without PAC, they risk a painful death from infection and severe bleeding as well as serious permanent injury and disability.
To ensure that women have access to this life-saving service, PAC should be offered at the lowest-level health facility possible. Good infection-prevention practices and effective management of pain and complications are essential components of high-quality PAC.
One major barrier to providing high-quality PAC in emergency settings has been the scarcity of trained health professionals.
In response, RAISE developed a comprehensive clinical training package on PAC, which includes detailed training manuals, for RAISE partners at the RAISE Training Centre in Nairobi, Kenya.
Clinical Training for Reproductive Health in Emergencies: Post-Abortion Care prepares participants to manage incomplete and unsafe abortion and to work effectively as a team. This manual, which is based on existing PAC material and updated and adapted for use in emergency settings, has been pretested at the RAISE Training Centre.
These manuals, which are available for download, are intended to be used in a comprehensive training setting
complete with clinical supervision and follow-up.
