RHRC Consortium Statement on Pakistan Flood Response and Recovery
The Reproductive Health Response in Crisis (RHRC) Consortium, of which Columbia University and Marie Stopes International are both members, calls for the needs of women and girls to be urgently addressed in Pakistan. About 3 million people have been affected by the deadly flood in Pakistan that has already killed 1,500 people. Those displaced from their homes, 85% of whom are women and children, are fleeing to temporary relief sites for aid and services. All are entitled to life-saving comprehensive reproductive health services.

RHRC Consortium Statement on Kyrgyzstan
The Reproductive Health Response in Crisis (RHRC) Consortium, of which Columbia University and Marie Stopes International are both members, calls for the needs of women and girls to be urgently addressed in Kyrgyzstan. Some 300,000 people, mainly ethnic Uzbeks, have been forcibly displaced as a result of the conflict, all of whom are entitled to life-saving comprehensive reproductive health services.

RAISE’s Grace Kodindo Speaks on WNYC’s Leonard Lopate Show
Dr. Grace Kodindo, Medical and Advocacy Adviser for the RAISE Initiative, appeared on the Leonard Lopate Show to discuss maternal mortality. Dr. Kodindo, a native of Chad where maternal health indicators are extremely poor, brought nearly two decades of experience as an OB/GYN to the conversation. She discussed the lack of access to maternal health care as well as barriers faced by pregnant women in her home country and in other parts of sub-Saharan Africa. Lynn Freedman, Director of the Averting Maternal Death and Disability Program (AMDD), a sister program of RAISE at the Mailman School of Public Health in the Department of Population & Family Health at Columbia University, also appeared on the show.

RAISE at Women Deliver
This week, women’s health advocates from around the world will gather at Women Deliver 2010, a global conference to be held in Washington, DC, USA from June 7-9.
At Women Deliver, the RAISE Initiative and many of its partners will be participating in “Achieving the Millennium Development Goals Using a Developmental Approach to Relief: Experience from the Reproductive Health Response in Crises (RHRC) Consortium (Session 220),” on Tuesday, June 9 from 1:30-3:00 pm.

RAISE’s Family Planning Manuals Now in Arabic
RAISE has just released its family planning (FP) manuals
in Arabic. Clinical Training for Reproductive Health in Emergencies: Family Planning serves as a reference guide for FP service providers working in emergency and crisis-affected settings. It is meant to be a companion to the World Health Organization’s Family Planning: A Global Handbook for Providers.
These manuals, which are available for download, are intended to be used in a comprehensive training setting complete with clinical supervision and follow- up.
