Participants
More than 500 participants, hailing from more than 50 countries around the world, attended
Reproductive Health in Emergencies Conference 2008. Participants included field staff, managers,
researchers, policy makers and donors representing:
- Community-based organisations
- Local and regional nongovernmental organisations (NGOs)
- International NGOs
- Government offices
- Academic and research institutions
- United Nations agencies
- Donor organisations
The conference was addressed by high-level representatives, both
local and international. These individuals included the Right Honorable Rebecca Kadaga, Deputy
Speaker of Ugandan Parliament; the Right Honorable Dr. Emanuelle Otaala, Minister of Health, Uganda;
Sadia Afroze Chowdhury, Senior Health Specialist, Reproductive and Child Health, World Bank; Sabrina
Saqib, Member of Afghan Parliament; Dana Hovig, CEO of Marie Stopes International (MSI); Alastair Robb,
Senior Health Advisor to DFID in Uganda; and H.E. Jeroen Verheul, Ambassador to Uganda, Kingdom of
the Netherlands.
The conference was comprehensive and informative and the sharing of experiences from different
countries was invaluable."
